Spirit of solidarity
COMMUNITY Water Sec. Solidarity
Sailing, Inclusivity, and Listening to the Sea on Board Moana60
“Moana60, the least accessible boat becomes the cradle of accessibility.”
With this vision, Spirit of Solidarity is a project aimed at breaking down every barrier—physical, social, and economic—allowing people with disabilities, particularly visual impairments, to experience the unique thrill of sailing and connect with the sea in a fully accessible way. Thanks to special adaptations, Moana60 has become a boat where everyone can feel part of nature and its wonders, without limitations.
One of the key features of this initiative is universal access to sailing: our community is committed to creating tailored sailing journeys for those who might otherwise never have had the opportunity to experience this adventure. Activities at sea not only provide the chance to learn navigation but also serve as an opportunity to boost self-esteem, a sense of achievement, and social connection. Through the sea, participants can discover new skills and grow, learning to work in teams and solve problems collaboratively.
But Spirit of Solidarity doesn’t stop at sailing. Each outing includes the use of a marine hydrophone, a tool that records and plays back the sounds of the sea. From waves breaking against the boat to the noises of the seabed, these mysterious marine sounds become a unique experience for guests, especially for those with visual impairments.
Listening to the recorded sounds becomes a moment of deep reflection, where each individual can interpret and give personal meaning to the natural sounds. This auditory experience stimulates the mind and creates an intimate connection with the marine environment, conveying emotions that are hard to express in words. Participants explore the underwater world not with their eyes but through hearing, amplifying their connection to nature.
Moreover, the project fosters personal and social development. Through sailing, participants not only acquire practical skills but are also encouraged to enhance their ability to collaborate, improving self-control and problem-solving abilities. The community formed onboard is an opportunity to socialize and grow together, facing the challenges of the sea as one unified team.
Participation in sports events related to sailing is another vital aspect of the project. Spirit of Solidarity participants have the chance to test their newfound skills in regattas and sailing events, measuring their progress in a competitive yet inclusive environment. Every experience, from training to competition, is designed to make everyone feel equal, free from discrimination.
These combined efforts aim to make sailing accessible to everyone, overcoming the barriers that would typically prevent access to an activity often considered elitist. But Spirit of Solidarity doesn’t stop there: it’s an opportunity for growth, learning, and awareness, deeply intertwined with respect for the marine environment. Sailing, combined with listening to the sea, becomes a way to educate about sustainability, protect our ecosystem, and celebrate diversity.
With Spirit of Solidarity, we want every participant to rediscover themselves, engage with others and nature, and experience sailing as a journey of inclusion, solidarity, and respect. It’s an adventure that goes beyond physical barriers, opening hearts and minds to new opportunities for growth and mutual understanding.
